In July, we made further refinements to the existing alcohol medical student curriculum and the SP document. A consultant reviewed the MedStudentLearning portal. We also added Twitter and Facebook to MedStudentLearning.
Progress During July 2009
Milestone 1
Develop Remaining Content Modules
Task 1: Develop Remaining Educational Content and Features for Modules
- In July, we continued to develop the Pharmacology of Alcohol and Neurobiology of Alcohol Addiction course. We continued to refine the SPI and the SP document. We also added Twitter and Facebook links to the MedStudentLearning portal.
Task 2: Gather and Incorporate Feedback From Project Consultants
- Once the Pharmacology course is completed, our consultants will provide a full editorial review. The MedStudentLearning site was sent to Mark Gold for a consultant editorial review.
Future Needs: We will need to recruit medical students to do usability for the SPI.
Milestone 2
Complete Summative Evaluation of Product
Task 1: Design Evaluation
- The summative evaluation will be designed once we finalize our course structures.
Task 2: Recruit 80 Medical Students in their Second through Fourth Years of Study
- Recruitment for the summative evaluation will be completed once we finalize our course structures.
Task 3: Perform Summative Evaluation
- The summative evaluation will be performed once we finalize our course structures.
Task 4: Analyze Data
- Data analysis of the summative evaluation will be done once completed.
Future Needs: Once course content is finalized, we will recruit 80 medical students in their second through fourth years of study to perform a large-scale summative evaluation.
Milestone 3
Disseminate Results and Background Information About Curriculum
Task 1: Submit At Least One Article to a Peer-Reviewed Appropriate Publication
- Once we finalize our courses and receive summative data, we will submit an article of our results.
Task 2: Present Results to Two or More Appropriate Scientific Meetings and at the NIH’s Annual SBIR Showcase
- At present, we are finalizing the Pharmacology course so that we can present initial results to upcoming conferences as well as get feedback from these audiences.
Task 3: Contact Leading Medical and Substance Abuse Organizations
- We are receiving important information that aids in the revision of the SP document from the ASPE listserve.
Future Needs: Once the courses and summative evaluation is completed, we will submit at least one article to a peer-reviewed appropriate publication, as well as presentation of results to two or more appropriate scientific meetings and at the NIH’s annual SBIR showcase.
