Some of the touchpads on the Dell laptops (including the Studio 1440 and the Inspiron 15z) have very sensitive touchpads that can interfere while typing. The Dell Touchpad utility uses TouchCheck (now also called PalmCheck) to reduce interference from your palm accidentally brushing the touchpad while typing.

The latest drivers for the Alps touchpad are saved here: S:\Downloads\Drivers\Dell\Studio1440\Touchpad

Alternatively, you can download them from the Dell website.

After installing the drivers, check to make sure that TouchCheck is enabled:

  1. By default, the Dell Touchpad utility will be in your taskbar. If you can't find it there, you can access it by going to Control Panel > Hardware & Sounds > Mouse (under the Devices & Printers heading), click the Dell Touchpad tab and launch the application.
  2. Select Touchpad Settings
  3. Check to make sure that TouchCheck is enabled. If necessary, you can also adjust the sensitivity levels for TouchCheck.
