Monthly Progress Report #29 of 31

Reporting Period: 12/1/08 – 12/31/08

Overview

In December we began final usability testing to evaluate individual components of the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor website. We conducted the first of three iterative rounds of usability testing with Prescribers to evaluate the BupSite feature. Data from this completed first round of testing was compiled and analyzed and all technical and usability issues identified during the tests were addressed. We prepared scripts and surveys for the second round of testing to evaluate the Resource Center with Referrers, and began conducting this round of testing. We continued recruitment of Referrers for the second and third rounds of testing. Also during this period we made some refinements to the interface of the Resource Center in preparation for usability testing and continued developing the user groups functionality.

Progress During December 2008

Objective 1:

Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor content

  • We incorporated the feedback from consultants into the How To Guide content. In all we changed content in 40 sections and added about a dozen new resources.

Objective 2:

Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor interface

  • We refined the interface of the Resource Center main page (Appendix A) and the resource search results pages prior to usability testing of this feature.

Objective 3:

Develop all software/programming for the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor

  • We made minor adjustments to the BupSite functionality to address issues discovered during usability testing.
  • We continued development of the user groups feature. Functionality was set up so that users can create public or private groups and can post content such as forum topics, blogs and polls on the group page. The core functionality is complete, but some further refinements and testing are still required.

Objective 4:

Conduct a series of evaluations on the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor website

  • We conducted the first of three iterative rounds of usability tests with five Prescribers, testing the BupSite feature. The BupSite feature allows the physican user or their proxy to create a web page with basic information about their office based buprenorphine treatment (OBOT) practice. The BupSite functionality "passed" the usability metrics, with all participants successfully completing the requested tasks, and generally correctly anticipating the reactions of the software to their actions. Satisfaction with the BupSite appearance, practice information provided, and creation process were all rated highly.
  • We compiled and analyzed the qualitative and quantitative usability data and developed a list of action items based on the results.
  • In response to user comments from this first round of usability data, we are making minor revisions to the functionality, for example, revising the list of insurances, adding a text field for specifying the languages spoken doctor versus staff, and adding additional input fields to allow multiple doctors and clinic names to be displayed.
  • We developed scripts and surveys for usability testing of the Resource Center feature.
  • We began conducting the second of three iterative rounds of usability tests with five referrers, testing the Resource Center feature.
  • We continued recruitment for the two final rounds of usability testing, to be conducted in January.
