PI: T. Bradley Tanner, MD; Clinical Tools, Inc.
Monthly Progress Report #25 of 31
Reporting Period: 8/1/08 – 8/31/08
Overview
In August, we made further refinements to the interface, continued development of the My Practice Page feature, and initiated recruitment for evaluations, which will begin in September. We also sent the entire site content to consultants for review.
Progress During August 2008
Objective 1:
Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor content
- We finalized the content this month, including the new content on preventing and detecting diversion of buprenorphine.
- We uploaded all of the draft content onto the website, compiled it in a Word document, and then sent it to our expert consultants for review. (The document was approximately 40 pages in length, so we anticipate that it may take several months for the consultants to review it and send their feedback.)
Objective 2:
Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor interface
- Using the new Content Management System (CMS), we were able to finalize the features, confirm that CMS was indeed the best choice, and create a rough website that delivered most of the functionality we envision.
- Updates to the home page design and text were made to improve usability and clarity.
- Functionality was created to allow users to add, comment on, and rate resources in order to increase interactivity and make the site more dynamic.
- The Referral Center page was created and includes resources for finding a buprenorphine treatment provider and referring a patient for treatment.
- Finally, development of the My Practice Page feature continued, and an early functional version was set up.
Objective 3:
Develop all software/programming for the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor
- No programming/software development was required last month.
Objective 4:
Conduct a series of evaluations on the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor website
- We continued developing usability surveys for the final evaluation.
- We also sent a recruitment message to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM); it will be e-mailed to their members and posted in their newsletter.
- We began collecting and organizing physician-contact information from our database of users who completed our buprenorphine training program.
Work to be Performed in the Next Reporting Period
Objective 1:
Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor content
- Integrate consultant feedback regarding content.
Objective 2:
Develop the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor interface
- Finish interface design and usability testing of My Practice Page feature.
- Enhance the ability of the site to foster participation and communication between users.
- Finish testing all website functionality prior to starting evaluations.
- Refine the interface and give it a more polished look.
Objective 3:
Develop all software/programming for the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor
- As our resources have grown, it is clear that we need a better search-select-view system for resources. Next month, we will design a solution so users can more easily find what they need, organize the results, share their findings, and contribute to the resource collection.
- We will finish the functional design of the My Practice Page which allows users to create a custom home page where they display information about their practice.
Objective 4:
Conduct a series of evaluations on the Buprenorphine Practice Advisor website
- Finish writing final evaluation surveys.
- Recruit and survey physicians who are (and are not) waivered to prescribe buprenorphine.
- Begin final evaluation.
